SMART BOX 4U
SmartBox4U provides a smart integrated solution for vulnerable population groups as a means of preventing potential asthma attacks due to exposure to poor air quality. The proposed system consists of a wearable sensing unit (electronic gadget) combined with a smartphone application (mobile App) that uses crowd-sourcing techniques to help users avoid potential exposure to harmful particulate matter (PM) in their everyday outdoor activities, by notifying them in advance when ambient air quality drops below standard levels in their area of interest. Specifically, SmartBox4U transforms the individual sensing units into a network of smart interconnected mobile agents that collect and transmit up-to-date information about PM concentrations to the system platform (via smartphone) in real-time, exploiting thus the high frequency of use and wide area coverage in order to build air pollution maps of high spatial and temporal resolution for the benefit of the end-user.
